EP12: Girls Gone Wild

This has been a topic for discussion in the church for years. And for some it really gets their blood boiling. Watch for the hosts response to the question: women preachers/pastors. Doesn’t the Bible teach against this?

There are really two questions here, because the Bible speaks differently to the two situations. Women preachers? Women pastors?

Is it okay for women to be preachers? yes.
1 Timothy 2:9 I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, 10 but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God. 11 A woman should learn in quietness and full submission.12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent.13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve.

Paul spoke against a CULTURE, not women speaking. In the city of Ephesus, where Timothy pastors was the temple Artemis. And at the center of worship of Artemis were priestesses and Paul was fighting against the worship of priestesses over the worship of our Creator.

Joel 2:28 “And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and
DAUGHTERS will prophesy…” Prophesy means to speak under divine inspiration. God speaks to both men and women and He expects those people to share what they have been taught. Joel prophesied that in the last days Women will be preaching. In fact Peter addressed a crowd in one of his speeches and reread this prophecy. Acts 2:17-18.

Is it okay for women to be pastors? no/yes.
1 Timothy 3:1 Here is a trustworthy saying: If anyone sets his heart on being an overseer, he desires a noble task.2 Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife, temperate, self‑controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,3 not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money.4 He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him with proper respect.5 (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God’s church?)6 He must not be a recent convert, or he may become conceited and fall under the same judgment as the devil.

Titus 1:5 The reason I left you in Crete was that you might straighten out what was left unfinished and appoint elders in every town, as I directed you.6 An elder must be blameless, the husband of but one wife, a man whose children believe and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient.7 Since an overseer is entrusted with God’s work, he must be blameless–not overbearing, not quick‑tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain.8 Rather he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self‑controlled, upright, holy and disciplined.

The Bible does say when describing the qualifications for a Pastor, is a husband but to one wife. It does not specifically state that Pastors can not be women.
