Worship As It Should Be
December 4th, 2010 at 8:42pm by John Popovich
This post is an essay I wrote during my time at GCU. I just thought I would share my thoughts on worship. Enjoy. Christian worship by way of music can be a powerful experience. The music plays and the congregation sings praises in a beautiful harmony. Some cry out to the Lord, some bow their heads in reverent silence, while still others lift their hands joyously and shout. But what is the reasoning behind these varied actions? A challenge that many worship leaders encounter is having to shift the congregation from worshipping the experience of worship, to worshipping God. With… Read More
Do you Have to Give?
November 22nd, 2010 at 10:16am by Josh Burcham
Do you have to give? Yes. If you consider yourself a Christian you must give. Jesus and the Bible commands Christians to give to their local churches. Though the reason we are commanded to give might not be what you are expecting. You see, giving is a heart issue. Money has a special draw for people and people never have enough of it. The bible actually speaks to this, “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.” 1 Timothy… Read More

Is Suicide a Sin?
November 21st, 2010 at 4:58pm by Tedd Harris
This is a delicate question, to put it mildly. If you are asking because you’re wondering about a Christian friend who committed suicide, hopefully this response will give you comfort. If you are asking because you’re considering it and wondering if you’ll get away with it, in a word: don’t. Get help. There are a lot of resources available to you. Call 1-800-273-8255 (National Support Number) for immediate help. Suicides going straight to hell is, unfortunately, not only a popular notion but a not-uncommon teaching in some churches. However, you won’t find much scriptural basis for it. Here are a… Read More

Can a Christian lose their salvation?
October 7th, 2010 at 11:08am by Tedd Harris
It is impossible to answer a question like this in a short amount of space, and still give proper due to differing viewpoints. This also delves right off the bat into one’s basic theology! But acknowledging how heavy a question it is, let me give you just two things to consider: 1. Was your salvation your idea, or God’s? You can get a pretty good answer to that by reading Romans 8:29, and Ephesians 2:8-9. In the Romans passage, God already knew and predestined His believers. (How it is true both that God chooses believers AND believers choose God is… Read More
Drinking / Drunk
Christians and Alcohol?
October 6th, 2010 at 11:03pm by John Popovich
This is a great question, and one that comes up often. The common response, often by Christians and non-Christians alike, is “Jesus drank!” For the most part yes he did, but he did not get drunk, and one must look not only to the cultural climate of the times, but one must also ask the question: Why are you drinking in the first place? In 1 Timothy, Paul lists among the characteristics of those who would be leaders in the church that they be “not given to drunkenness” (1 Timothy 3:3) or “not indulging in much wine” (1 Timothy 3:8)…. Can I Skip Paying My Taxes?
October 6th, 2010 at 10:58pm by Erik VanDuyn
I wish I had the answer you were looking for, believe me I often thought about not paying my taxes. Think about all the money that the government takes from you and the return that you get for it. Ha what return. Anyway, Jesus taught us a little about taxes and I’ll give you some verses that you just might not want to hear. (Matthew 22:15-22) The Pharisees tried to trap Jesus hoping He would answer wrongly, as we know Jesus never answered a question incorrectly nor did He sin in His answers. Simply put Jesus said “Give to Ceaser what… Read More

Should I be baptized?
September 29th, 2010 at 11:21am by Josh Burcham
The short answer… Yes. But you wouldn’t of clicked on this post if you where just looking for the short answer. I grab this post, because God used baptism to change my look on life. Let me explain. Up until a couple of years ago baptism was just baptism. It was just something that you were supposed to do as a Believer. But as I read through the tenth chapter of Mark, God rocked my world with some ridiculous truth. James and John approached Jesus and asked to have to honor of sitting at the right and left of Christ:… Read More
